LEONID MULTI-INSTRUMENT AIRCRAFT CAMPAIGN
Status of project as of June 04, 2003
1. LEONID MAC WORKSHOP: AUGUST 28-30
You are invited to participate in this year's Leonid MAC Workshop that will be held at NASA Ames Research Center on August 28-30. The abstract deadline is July 10, 2003. Registration is at: http://leonid.arc.nasa.gov/workshop/.
This will be the first occasion for participating researchers and other workers in the field to compare notes on the 2002 Leonid storms. As in prior workshops, we expect that many collaborations will be established and a lot of surprises will emerge while discussing the storm prediction models, the satellite impact hazard, the composition and morphology of comet dust, the physics of meteor ablation, the fate of organic matter in the exogenous delivery of prebiotic molecules, and the effect of meteors on the upper atmosphere.
This year's meeting will be special, because it is the final meeting of the Leonid MAC project. Among the highlights, we anticipate the first showing of a NASA documentary on the missions. A product of this workshop will be a series of review papers on the various aspects of Leonid storm research for a special publication that will intend to summarize the fruits of this season's Leonid storm research.
The workshop is just prior to the AAS Division of Planetary Science meeting in nearby Monterey (Sept 1-7) and coincides with the Exobiology PI meeting at Ames.
